Sexual assault can have serious and traumatic effects on victims and survivors, particularly when the victims are children. The Government of Canada is providing victims and survivors of child sexual assault with the services they need to improve their recovery and reduce the risk of developing problems in others areas of their lives.

This funding will help children who are victims of sexual abuse talk about the crimes committed against them so that social workers, law enforcement and other professionals in the criminal justice system can provide them with the services they need and deserve.”

• In 2013, the Government of Prince Edward Island published revised guidelines and procedures for a coordinated response to child sexual abuse.

• The Provincial Child Sexual Abuse Advisory Committee was formed in 1991 with representatives from Family and Human Services, Justice and Public Safety, education, police services, community organizations, and adult survivors. The mandate of the committee is to promote a coordinated, informed, cooperative, and collaborative response to child sexual abuse, and to promote public awareness and prevention strategies to reduce the prevalence of child sexual abuse in Prince Edward Island.
