Improving delivery of office printing equipment and services

To enhance security, encourage greener government practices and equip public servants with the latest technologies, Shared Services Canada (SSC) is changing how the Government of Canada buys and manages its office printing equipment and services.

The Government of Canada recognizes the important role that small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play in Canada’s economy, especially in terms of innovation. In keeping with that, new agreements that provides for the inclusion of SMEs, have been put in place to ensure public servants have modern, secure and reliable printing devices and print services.

To do this, SSC followed an open, fair and competitive procurement process, engaging an independent fairness monitor and consulting with 38 industry stakeholders. Following this two-year collaborative process, Xerox Canada Ltd., Konica Minolta Business Solutions (Canada) Ltd., and Ricoh Canada Inc. were found to offer the best value.

SSC is committed to making procurement processes easier, faster and more accessible for suppliers and buyers. At the same time, we want to provide opportunities for under-represented groups, such as Indigenous- and women-led businesses.

The estimated annual value of printer-related contracts allocated under these six-year agreements is $60 million.
