The average Canadian lives paycheck to paycheck and has little incentive to save given that inflation would negatively affect the buying power of deposits - assuming he has money to put away it is based placed where it makes the best return - higher risks the higher return...enforce a minimum deposit interest rate tied to inflation and some might use deposit accounts.
