From: XXXX Sent: February-27-14 6:48 PM To: Consumer Code / Code consommateur Subject: Banking With in the last few weeks I have had a bad experience with XXXX. I recently moved here to Quebec City from Nova Scotia and tried to set up a bank account at the branch mentioned abovr as my old one had been closed as it was never used. I called there help line to set up a appointment and find out what I needed for ID to do so. I arrived to my appointment to find no one spoke English but struggled through using Google translate, at the end when I gave my Identification the lady left the room then returned with the manager who spoke great English but advised me my Canadian birth certificate was not valid for them, even though the help line says it is. I was denied but later returned with my wife who has a existing account there and ask if I could deposit the many pay and goverment checks I had into her accountm After a hour of fuss including calling my employer and saying his letter head on his checks were void and contacting unemployment insurence and verifying all 7 checks from them and getting me my wife 2 tellers and the manager to inital the checks they allowed me to deposit them in her account. A week later I receive a brand new bank card in the mail addressed from the same bank stating return to the bank to get a pin number and have it activated. I call the help line before hand and they confirm what to do and what to take for identification. I arrive at the same bank to deal with a teller who knows very little English but tells me the account is closed. Me not speaking any French ask to speak to the manager who I know can speak English. He directs me to his office and tells me he has no idea when that card was issued even though the letter is dated and addressed from his bank.I try and explain I received it a week ago it says come in and get activated. I have brought more work checks which I had my employer correct his letter head my birth certificate and valid drivers license plus the letter and card his bank sent as proof of address. He still looks at my birth certificate as it is foreign and refuses to admit his branch issued the card. The best he can do he says is me make another appoitment which I reply I have been here 3 times your waiting room is empty can you help me today. He refuses then I ad the lady who tried to set it up last time just walked by me in the empty waiting room drinking a coffee. He replies she has things to do so make it for another day. I say I noticed him gazing out his window when I walked in so didn't seem busy and since he spoke perfect English maybe he could do it for me he chuckled and said I am the manager and don't do such things. I replied my wife has are mortage and car loans through this bank and had told me if I was not treated fairly we would be moving our account else where,he shrugs and says that is up to us. I tell him he is ignorant and should be ashamed for wasting my time yet again. I collect my stuff and leave as he sets smugley looking out his window twiddling his thumbs. Any how pretty upset and really feel it has a lot to do with me being English in a French province or just his lack of care for the little guy who with out he would be jobless.
