From: XXXX Sent: February-27-14 10:48 PM To: Consumer Code / Code consommateur Cc: Nash, Peggy - HoC.CdC Subject: Public Consultation regarding banking in Canada, deadline to submit Feb 28th, 5pm Dear Jane Pearse (or other recipient of this email), It is 10:30 on Feb 27th and today was the first I heard of the public consultation regarding a new set of consumer protection regulations or standards regarding banking in Canada. This was solely due to a CBC online article run tonight reporting about a National Bank customer in Montreal being refused the "opportunity" to make his monthly mortgage payment in branch, in cash. It is my sincere feeling that the government did not adequately promote or advertise this process to Canadians and that the window of opportunity to submit a statement, was too short, at 87 days. It was absolutely lost in the pre-holiday period. I am quite mystified that I could only find one media mention in a Google search, from the original December 3rd press release. This is indeed important to all Canadians and I would like to request that it is extended to a more appropriate length of time (an additional 60 days at minimum) so that more Canadians can find out about this process and more importantly have adequate time to make an appropriate submission. Sincerely, XXXX I have cc'd Ms. Nash as she is my MP, and the Finance Critic for the NDP.
