Honorary Colonel David C. Emelifeonwu

Dr. David Emelifeonwu was appointed as Honorary Colonel of 1 Wing Kingston, ON in September 2014.

Honorary Colonel Emelifeonwu was born in Ibusa, Delta State Nigeria and completed his education in North America. He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Economics and Political Science. He received a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Policy Studies from Duke University followed by a second MA in History from Illinois State University in 1988. Honorary Colonel Emelifeonwu completed his doctoral studies in Political Science at McGill University in 2000, specializing in comparative politics and international relations.

At present, Honorary Colonel Emelifeonwu is the Senior Staff Officer, J7 Educational Engagements and Partnerships at the Canadian Defence Academy and Associate Professor at the Royal Military College of Canada, both in Kingston, ON. Recognized internationally for his expertise in defence education he regularly leads executive military seminars in peace support operations; civil military relations and cooperation and develops military education reference curriculums for North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) International Staff Political Affairs and Security Policy (PASP) Division and the Partnership for Peace Consortium of Defence Academies and Security Studies Institutes. At various times, Honorary Colonel Emelifeonwu has worked as a consultant for the Government of Alberta, the Canadian International Development Agency and for the United Nations in New York and Zimbabwe.

Honorary Colonel Emelifeonwu is a recipient of the Canadian Armed Forces Medallion for Distinguished Service (2013). He and his family reside in Kingston.
