Honorary Colonel Gaston Bédard

Mr. Bédard was appointed as the first Honorary Colonel of the newly formed 2 Expeditionary Readiness Centre, 2 Air Expeditionary Wing, Bagotville, QC in June 2015. This unit is known as 2 Air Expeditionary Training Squadron (2 AETS) since the restructuring of 2 Wing in July 2018.
Honorary Colonel Bédard is the Vice President of Desjardin Credit Union of Quebec while also serving as the Director General/President of the Council for Quebec-based Cooperatives and Mutualities. He was born in Cap-de-la-Madeleine and graduated from the University of Quebec at Trois Rivieres first with a degree in Computer Science followed by a Master’s degree in Economics. Following graduation, Honorary Colonel Bédard served in various positions at a number of Desjardin branch offices before moving to the head office in Quebec City in 2009. Early in his career he also served for three years with the 12th Canadian Armoured Regiment in the Primary Reserves.
Honorary Colonel Bédard serves on several boards and foundations. He is a long-time member of the governance and administrative committees for technology resources and real estate, chairman of the board for the University of Quebec Hospital Centre and administrator for the foundation for the Institute of the Elderly in Montreal. Honorary Colonel Bédard also serves as administrator of funds to promote long term development in Quebec and student scholarships. Since 2012 he has administered the interdisciplinary centre for research and development for cooperative enterprises.
