Honorary Colonel Heather (Smith) Hemming PhD

Dr. Heather Hemming was appointed as Honorary Colonel of 405 Long Range Patrol Squadron, Greenwood NS in May 2018.

Honorary Colonel Hemming assumed the position of Vice-President Academic at Acadia University, Wolfville NS July 1, 2016 and is the first woman to hold the role. This appointment follows a career at Acadia as a professor and academic leader. Honorary Colonel Hemming has had a career focused on teaching and literacy.

Honorary Colonel Hemming grew up in the Annapolis Valley Nova Scotia. She currently lives in Port Williams, NS and has been an active member of the local community serving in several roles over the years including board member for the Annapolis Valley Learning Centre and the Acadia Entrepreneurship Centre.

Honorary Colonel Hemming has a long family history with the military. Her father, Graham Smith, was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces finishing his service at CFB Greenwood. Her deceased father in-law, Cyril George Hemming, piloted a Halifax bomber for 36 missions over Germany in WWII as a member of 432 squadron.
