Honorary Colonel John Cairns

Mr. John Cairns was appointed as Honorary Colonel of 2 Air Movements Squadron, 8 Wing Trenton, ON in November 2018.
HCol Cairns was born and raised in Belleville, ON. His military roots extend through his father who served in the Merchant Marines in WWII. In 1992, HCol Cairns was involved in a work-related injury that almost ended his life. He was struck by a railcar and suffered the loss of his right arm and right leg. As a survivor of PTSD, he founded Voice of Victory as a motivational speaker sharing his can-do attitude to inspire others to live their life to their full potential. HCol Cairns is the President of Wheelchair of Hope Foundation. The Foundation provides wheelchairs and select mobility devices to individuals unable to afford them.
HCol Cairns is the Owner of Earl and Angelo’s Fine Dining Premiere Steakhouse and Seafood Restaurant in Belleville.
HCol Cairns has served on numerous Organizational Boards within the Quinte Region: serving as a Director of Quinte Health Care; on the Accessibility Advisory Council; and, on The Children's Foundation Board of Directors ensuring kids’ lives are given proper supportive care and sporting opportunities. He is a member of Rotary International and continues to serve as Past President of The Rotary Club of Belleville.
HCol Cairns has been inducted into Canada's Hall of Fame as Canada's 2016 Unsung Hero. In August 2016, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and in May 2018, he successfully summited Mount Everest Base Camp.
