Captain Edward Soye
Snowbird 10 – Advance and Safety Pilot, Canadian Forces Snowbirds
Captain (Capt) Edward Soye was born in Toronto, Ontario and learned to fly in the summer of 2000 through the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2003 as a Reserve Officer in the Cadet Instructor Cadre serving as a flight instructor and tow pilot in the Air Cadet Gliding Program until 2018.
Capt Soye graduated from the University of Toronto in 2007 with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in History and continued his studies at the Royal Military College of Canada, earning a Master of Arts in War Studies in 2009. In 2015, he became a Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder while working with an investment firm.
Capt Soye’s passion for aviation history and his experience flying tailwheel aircraft led to the privilege of flying numerous vintage aeroplanes. These ranged from replica Fokker Triplanes to the original North American Harvard – which he flew as part of a civilian air show team for several years.
After joining the Regular Force in 2018, Capt Soye earned his wings on the CT-156 Harvard II at 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School in 2021. He went on to become a Senior Qualified Flying Instructor and Standards Officer before he was selected to join the Canadian Forces Snowbirds in 2023.
Outside of work, Capt Soye enjoys exploring the world with his husband, seeking out and travelling on vintage vehicles of all sorts.
Capt Soye has accumulated more than 2500 hours of total flying time in over 30 types of military and civilian aircraft. For the 2024 season, he flies the number 10 Jet as an Advance and Safety Pilot.
