Master Corporal Jonathan Porter
Snowbird 6A – Aviation Technician, Canadian Forces Snowbirds
Born and raised in North York, Ontario, Master Corporal (MCpl) Jonathan Porter became interested in a career with the Canadian Armed Forces after viewing the military static displays and speaking with recruiters at the Canadian National Exhibition.
Feeling unsatisfied with a mediocre occupation in the civilian industry, the roaring sound of aircraft turbine engines at the Canadian International Airshow in Toronto sparked an interest in military aviation.
In 2011, he decided to enlist in the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Aviation Systems Technician. After completing Basic Military Qualification training at Garrison Saint Jean sur Richelieu in Quebec and then Aviation Systems Technician training at CFB Borden in 2012, he was posted to CFB Trenton where he worked on the C-130J Hercules aircraft fleet with 436 and 426 Transport Squadrons. After gaining nearly 10 years of valuable experience as an aircraft maintenance technician and instructor in his home province of Ontario, an opportunity to relocate to Saskatchewan was on the horizon.
MCpl Porter was posted to CFB Moose Jaw in 2022 and is currently employed on the CT-114 Tutor aircraft fleet with 431 Aerial Demonstration Squadron.
After completing Primary Leadership Qualification training at Edmonton Garrison in Alberta, he has augmented the Snowbirds maintenance detachment for spring training at CFB Comox in British Columbia and the AERO Gatineau air show in Quebec.
MCpl Porter will be joining the Snowbirds team as a Force Generation technician for the 2024 air show season.
