Snowbird 1A – Crew Chief, Canadian Forces Snowbirds

Sergeant Jim Waidson is from Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2000 as a Naval Communicator.

Upon completing trades training at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt in 2001, Sgt Waidson was posted to HMCS Halifax and deployed with a NATO Task Force and after the events of 11 Sept 2001, participated in OP APOLLO in the Persian Gulf. In 2005, he was posted ashore to NRS Halifax.

In 2008, Sgt Waidson transferred to the Air Force as an Aviation Systems Technician and after training at CFB Borden, ON he was posted to 8 Air Maintenaice Squadron at CFB Trenton where he worked on the CC-130E, CC-130H and CC-130J aircraft. In 2014, Sgt Waidson moved on to the CP-140 Aurora at 407 Long Range Patrol Squadron at CFB Comox, BC where he participated in many national and international deployments.

In 2023, Sgt Waidson’s lifelong aspiration was fulfilled when he was posted to 431 Air Demonstration Squadron in Moose Jaw, SK.

He is assigned the position of Crew chief for the 2024 air show season.
