Innovation is a key driver of productivity, competitiveness and regional economic growth, and is critical

to creating opportunities for business growth and well paid jobs for the middle-class and those working to join it. That is why the federal government is supporting Unum Health Inc. as it works to develop an innovative digital tool to help increase efficiency and improve service in the home care sector.

Pat Finnigan, Member of Parliament for Miramichi-Grand Lake, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), was joined by Lisa Williams, Owner of UniCare Home Care Services and Unum Health Inc., to make the announcement today.

Unum Health Inc. is poised to develop a new software application that will digitize and streamline home care services by allowing caregivers to have a hand held, easy to use tool for checking off and recording daily activity from their phone or tablet. The application will also provide extended health care teams with timely access to care plans, and serve as a master database for digitized records of caregiver activities. The Government of Canada is providing a repayable contribution of $316,800 through ACOA’s Business Development Program towards the development of this product.

This investment builds on the Government of Canada’s commitment to drive economic growth in Atlantic Canada through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, by providing strategic investments that help fuel innovation and contribute to a more vibrant, entrepreneurial, and globally competitive region where all Atlantic Canadians can thrive and prosper.
