Tourism is an inclusive sector that showcases Canada’s culture, diversity, natural beauty and unique experiences to the world. It delivers economic benefits across the country by supporting one in ten jobs. That’s why the Government of Canada is investing in the tourism sector’s businesses and assets.

Today, Alaina Lockhart, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie and Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, announced funding of $63,252 to support the Cape Enrage Interpretive Centre Inc. as it develops a new Fog and Fossils Interpretive Tour program. This investment is being made through the Canadian Experiences Fund (CEF), which supports Canadian businesses and organizations seeking to create, improve or enhance tourism products, facilities and experiences. This announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie.

Thanks to government assistance for this project, the Cape Enrage Interpretive Centre will construct a fog-harvesting fence and deliver the new Fog and Fossils interpretive tour program. As a result, residents and visitors to New Brunswick will be able to experience a unique, interpretive tour and attraction, as well as enjoy Cape Enrage and its natural beauty on both foggy and clear days.

This announcement supports Minister Joly’s recent announcement of Canada’s new tourism strategy: Creating Middle Class Jobs: A Federal Tourism Growth Strategy. The Strategy, which was developed based on feedback from Canadians and the work of the Advisory Council on Jobs and the Visitor Economy, highlights the importance of Canada’s tourism sector as an economic driver for communities across the country.

"The team at Cape Enrage is thrilled to move forward with this incredible opportunity. We are here today, preserving the lighthouse and this beautiful site, thanks to many students, teachers and stakeholders who invested their time and effort into saving Cape Enrage years ago. We are very much dedicated to working with students and education; therefore, we will have local high school students design, research, plan and propose their own fog fence prototypes. I am so grateful for the funding and trust in us to move this important project forward, and encourage people to keep visiting Cape Enrage on sunny and foggy days.”
