Upgrades to Cocagne Cape Marina to Enhance Tourist Experience

News release

Infrastructure investment will help attract new visitors and fuel local economy

August 7, 2019 – Cocagne, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Investing in tourism projects in both big cities and small communities throughout Atlantic Canada is essential to growing this important economic sector that supports 9,600 businesses, employs 57,000 Atlantic Canadians and contributes nearly $5 billion annually to the total value of goods and services sold in Atlantic Canada.  Support for the tourism sector helps to attract new visitors, grow businesses and create new ones, generating economic growth and good middle-class jobs.

The Cocagne Cape Marina is updating its infrastructure, including upgrades to the docks, repairs to the wharf, enhancements to the existing building and the addition of a pavilion to offer programming. The project will help fuel the growth of tourism businesses such as kayak and canoe rentals, sailing charters, fishing charters, tour boats, and others. The Government of Canada is supporting these upgrades with an investment of nearly $606,000.

The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Northern Affairs and Internal Trade and Member of Parliament for Beauséjour, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

This investment builds on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy by helping the region’s tourism industry attract more visitors and create new jobs across the region. This bold approach is in line with Canada’s Tourism Vision, which seeks to make Canada a top-ten global tourism destination by 2025.
