A Breath of Home

Je suis
Un vent d’est coloré de culture jusqu’à l’ouest

Which falls from Tadoussac to Victoria
From the North to Nova Scotia
Comme les étincelles des feux d’artifice
Un accent en douceur du
thank you very much
Jusqu’au Bienvenue qui efface les frontières
Et soulève sourires et idéaux

Open up and rise up says winter to the wide world
Come into my arms and let us talk
Talk

D'un demain qui n’arrivera pas trop tard
Duquel je me ferai le phare
from Victoria to Tadoussac
From the Atlantic jusqu’au bout de la terre
D’Amérique et d’amour je tendrai la main

Without fear and without pride
On m’a prêté ce présent qui rentre au cœur
Et qui le tient dans sa paume franche et ouverte

I will give it back next summer to the children of my people
Qui n’auront jamais à se battre
Comme l’auront fait nos frères
from different times
I love, j’aime, j’apprends
Quelque part à l’Ouest du Labrador

And I promise that my colors shall be everyone’s
Whoever wishes to grow up
Et espère voir la terre rire enfin

A breath of Home

I am
An eastern wind, coloured with culture, to the west
Which falls from todoussac to Victoria
From the North to Nova Scoitia
Like the sparks from fireworks
A soft accent from thank you very much
Until Welcome, which removes borders
And raises smiles and ideals
Open up and rise up says winter to the wide world
Come into my arms and let us talk
Talk

Of a tomorrow that won't arrive too late
Which I'll use as a beacon from Victoria to Tadoussac
From the Atlantic to the end of
America and with love I'll reach out my hand
Without fear and without pride
I was given this present that enters the heart
And which holds it in its frank and open palm
I will give it back next summer to the children of my people
Who will never have to fight
As our brothers have done from different times
I love, I love, I learn
Somewhere west of Labrador
And I promise that my colours shall be everyone's
Whoever wishes to grow up
And hope to see the Earth laught at last

Artist statement

"The inspiration for my idea was breathing. I was thinking of each Canadian breathing with the same rhythm, regardless of their origin or culture. I thought of the whisper of their voices. I thought of the openness of my great country, and I let my heart speak."
