Ways to celebrate
Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will be celebrated throughout the year and across the country. Stay tuned as we add Government of Canada and partner initiatives that celebrate her historic reign.
Château Laurier terrace exhibit
To celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, Canadian Heritage is mounting the exhibit The Queen and Canada on the Château Laurier terrace. Overlooking the Ottawa Locks of the Rideau Canal, the exhibit will feature images of the Monarch as both part of and witness to Canada’s story over the past 70 years. The outdoor exhibit will run from the end of July to October.
Commemorative coins
The Royal Canadian Mint and The Royal Mint (UK) have come together in celebration by issuing a special 2-coin set marking Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Each mint has produced 1 oz. fine silver coins featuring unique designs that capture the spirit of this historic occasion. Stay tuned for additional Platinum Jubilee commemorative coins to be released later in 2022.
The Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Two-Coin SetCommemorative stamp
Canada Post is issuing a commemorative stamp featuring Arnold Machin’s sculptured profile of The Queen, which was created for a stamp in 1967. Often used on British stamps, this is the first time this classic profile is being featured on a Canadian stamp. The stamp also bears the Canadian Platinum Jubilee emblem and will be available in booklets of 10, a traditional pane of 16 stamps and an official first day cover, cancelled in Ottawa.
Canada Post pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum JubileeConfederation Boulevard banner program
Starting this spring, colourful commemorative banners featuring the Platinum Jubilee emblem will fly along Confederation Boulevard, the capital’s ceremonial route in downtown Ottawa-Gatineau, as well as in provinces and territories. Each year, Canadian Heritage’s banner program highlights Canada’s provinces and territories and special anniversaries, such as The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Funding for community-based and national projects
Canadian Heritage provided $2.14 million in funding for celebrations and community projects marking the Platinum Jubilee. This funding supported 360 community events and 3 major national projects, including community gatherings, gardens and tree plantings linked to the British initiative The Queen’s Green Canopy, exhibitions, concerts and artistic performances, military parades, and educational activities. Learning resources by the Royal Canadian Geographical Society
Throughout the Platinum Jubilee year, the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and Canadian Geographic will be releasing a number of commemorative pieces. Canadians will learn about the Crown’s role throughout Canadian history in a series of magazine stories, maps, educational lesson plans and engagement activities as well as through a unique series of GeoMinute video vignettes. Each piece will explore various themes and topics relating to the Crown, such as the Queen’s Coronation and her 22 royal tours of Canada.
National illumination initiative
On June 2, the anniversary of Her Majesty’s Coronation Day, federal buildings in Canada’s Capital Region and elsewhere across the country will be illuminated. The illuminations will be conducted alongside other Commonwealth countries and numerous cities in the United Kingdom.
Northern Lights 2022
Northern Lights 2022, a sound and light show on Parliament Hill, will feature a special segment to mark the Platinum Jubilee. A dynamic animation and historical photos will showcase The Queen’s presence in Canada during her past 70 years of service. The show will be presented nightly from July to September.
Platinum Jubilee exhibit at the Canadian Museum of Nature
The Canadian Museum of Nature, Canada’s national museum of natural history and sciences in Ottawa, will unveil a display to honour The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in February 2022. Located in the Queens’ Lantern, the display will be comprised of specimens of platinum from the Museum’s collections, the guest book signed by The Queen and Prince Philip in 2010 during their Museum visit, and a timeline of stamps, coins and bank notes marking The Queen’s accession to the Throne and each jubilee year within her reign.

Royal Tour 2022
Visit to Canada by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall in May 2022 as part of the year-long celebrations marking the Platinum Jubilee. Their Royal Highnesses will meet with Canadians who are serving their fellow citizens and contributing to communities throughout Canada.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Gardens
Lieutenant governors and territorial commissioners will dedicate gardens across the country to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Each garden will include plants suited to the local climates. Vice-regal offices also received tobacco seeds from plants grown for The Chapel Royal at Massey College (called Gi-Chi-Twaa Gimaa Kwe Mississauga Anishinaabek Aname Amik, meaning The Queen’s Anishinaabek Sacred Place). The inclusion of tobacco, where climates and protocols allow, will represent the enduring relationship between the Crown and Indigenous peoples. The gardens will be planted in the spring and will be unveiled throughout the summer.
