Team Nova Scotia — Winterlude National Ice-Carving Championship

Sculpture title: The Spirit of the Flame

Carvers: Rob Milner and Chandana Kapila

Location: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

The spirit of the Olympic flame transcends abilities versus disabilities and focuses on effort, dedication, love of sport and sportsmanship. Olympic and Paralympic athletes all inspire as they do what they do best. The sculpture symbolizes this with a phantom hand holding the 2022 ceremonial relay torch as it ignites to start the Olympics. Spectators can imagine how achieving goals is an ongoing process for athletes. The Milner and Kapila team proposed a 2022 emblem etching on its work with a gravity defying Olympian torch.

A hand holds a relay torch and lights up the Olympic torch. The torch carries the Beijing 2022 Games emblem.
