Key Messages – 2020-2021 Supplementary Estimates (A)
An amount of $418 million dollars was allocated to the Department of Canadian Heritage and was mainly distributed as follows:
- $198.3M for the Arts and Culture beneficiaries through existing programs
- $88.8M to the Canada Media Fund to support the audiovisual sector
- $72M for the Sport Sector
- $53M to support the Heritage sector through the Museums Assistance Program
- $3.5M to the Digital Citizen Initiative for COVID-19 related projects
Portfolio organizations
- $55M to the Canada Council for the Arts
- $27.3M for the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission
- $27M to Telefilm Canada
Budgetary Credits
Canada Media Fund (CMF)
- $88.8 million will be distributed by the Canada Media Fund to support the Canadian audiovisual sector.
Canada Council for the Arts
- Through the Supplementary Estimates (A), the Canada Council for the Arts received $55 million from the COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund to help arts organizations that support artists. This funding will address the urgent needs of arts organizations.
Canada Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission
- After discussions with the Government of Canada, the CRTC did not issue letters requesting payments for Part I license fees by broadcasters for the 2020-21 fiscal year. The Government will transfer necessary funds to the CRTC to support its operations. As a result, by way of 2020-21 Supplementary Estimates (A), the CRTC will receive $27,330,000 in 2020-21. The net impact of supplementary estimates (A) also represents $5.13 million in statutory authorities in relation to contributions to the employee benefit plans for the CRTC employees.
Telefilm Canada
- By way of the 2020-21 Supplementary Estimates (A), Telefilm Canada will receive $27 million from the COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund. This funding will allow Telefilm Canada to support their recipients facing significant losses due to COVID-19 and ensure a continuity of operations.
