Community Support, Multiculturalism, and Anti-Racism Initiatives Program (CSMARI)
Since 2019, the Government of Canada has committed close to $100 million through Canada’s Anti-Racism Strategy, including $70 million to support community organizations across Canada addressing issues of anti-racism and multiculturalism.
The Community Support, Multiculturalism, and Anti-Racism Initiatives Program (CSMARI) supports the mandate of the department of Canadian Heritage by building on Canada's strength as a diverse and inclusive society.
The Program has three funding components: Events, Projects, and Community Capacity Building. Since 2018-19:
- $20.9 million has been invested in over 950 CSMARI Events.
- $9.6M has been invested in 151 Community Capacity Building initiatives.
- $26M has been invested in 251 CSMARI Projects.
There are currently 211 active CSMARI contribution agreements.
The Program's objectives are to:
- support communities in confronting racism and discrimination, promoting intercultural and interfaith understanding and fostering equitable opportunities to participate fully in Canadian society;
- promote and engage in discussions on multiculturalism, diversity, racism and religious discrimination at the domestic and international levels;
- strengthen research and evidence to build understanding of the disparities and challenges faced by racialized and religious minority communities, and Indigenous peoples.
Note: There are currently no open calls for proposals for Community Capacity Building and Projects. The only component with continuous intake, and therefore currently open for applications is Events.
