Community Support, Multiculturalism, and Anti-Racism Initiatives Program (CSMARI)

Since 2019, the Government of Canada has committed close to $100 million through Canada’s Anti-Racism Strategy, including $70 million to support community organizations across Canada addressing issues of anti-racism and multiculturalism.

The Community Support, Multiculturalism, and Anti-Racism Initiatives Program (CSMARI) supports the mandate of the department of Canadian Heritage by building on Canada's strength as a diverse and inclusive society.

The Program has three funding components: Events, Projects, and Community Capacity Building. Since 2018-19:

There are currently 211 active CSMARI contribution agreements.

Note: There are currently no open calls for proposals for Community Capacity Building and Projects. The only component with continuous intake, and therefore currently open for applications is Events.

Stream Objective Eligible Applicants
Events Funding to community-based events that promote intercultural or interfaith understanding.

  • Unincorporated groups of individuals
  • Municipalities with population under 10,000
  • Indigenous non-profit organizations

Community Capacity Building Building the capacity of organizations to promote diversity and inclusion.

Projects Community development, anti-racism initiatives, and engagement projects that promote diversity and inclusion by encouraging interaction among community groups.
