Minister Joly to Travel to San Francisco to Highlight the Importance of Canada’s Role in the Technology Industry

GATINEAU – The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, will travel to San Francisco, California, to highlight the importance of Canada’s role in digital technology and to promote the distribution of Canadian content on digital platforms. During her trip, she will highlight the fact that Canada is a leader in innovation and creative talent, thanks to its broad cultural diversity. Minister Joly will meet with several executives from the technology industry and attend an industry roundtable with Canadian business leaders working in Silicon Valley.

Nearly 1.2 million jobs in California alone depend on Canada–U.S. trade and investment, and the total value of goods traded between Canada and the State of California is US$44 billion.

12:30 p.m.      Minister Joly attends a roundtable luncheon with Canadian business leaders from the C-100 Association.

5:30 p.m.        Minister Joly attends a reception with senior leaders from Silicon Valley’s finance and technology industry.

9:30 a.m.        Minister Joly meets with executives at Facebook, where she will conduct a Facebook Live session, and hosts a meet-and-greet with Canadian expatriates working at Facebook.

2:15 p.m.        Minister Joly meets with executives at Google, and hosts a meet-and-greet with Canadian expatriates working at Google.
