Modern materials - Care of objects and collections

Natural and synthetic rubber and plastic deteriorate in different ways and at different rates. These rates are unpredictable so it is important that the owner of the item knows the factors that will cause the deterioration.

Cellulose nitrate is used in many products such as cutlery handles, toys, photographic frames and household items. In closed drawers, cabinets or display cases, with little air coming going through, these items release gases that affect the deterioration of metals and organic materials. Learn how to care and store these objects in and effective way to reduce their deteriorations and the deterioration of objects around them.
