About conservation treatment services
The deadline to apply for 2017–2018 conservation treatment services is October 15, 2016.
Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) is presently accepting applications for requests for conservation treatment services in 2017–2018. Details regarding the types of objects that can be submitted and the application process can be found below.
CCI offers services to Canadian museums, art galleries, archives and historic sites. These include conservation treatments ranging from stabilization to restoration, when appropriate, for interpretation and research purposes.
Requests for conservation treatments are reviewed once each year. The current deadline for submitting requests for treatments is October 15, 2016. Objects which are selected will be scheduled to arrive at CCI during 2017–2018, but the completion date will depend on the complexity of the treatment.
The following types of artifacts will be considered for treatment:
- fine arts;
- small textiles;
- paper (works of art on paper, photos, archival materials and books);
- archaeological; and
- historic, cultural, religious and Indigenous objects.
While the selection of objects for treatment is always based on the assessment of service requests, we encourage you to consider submitting requests for objects of particular importance that may be linked to key milestones in Canada's history. Objects related to the 150th anniversary of Confederation will be considered if CCI has the necessary resources to complete the treatments in time. We strongly encourage clients to review our assessment criteria and contact CCI for any questions on eligibility.
Canadian museums, art galleries, archives and historic sites open to the public do not pay for treatment costs, except under extraordinary circumstances. Clients are responsible for all costs of transporting objects to and from CCI, including adequate crating (which may require modifications to crates or new crates as a result of conservation treatment), shipping and insurance. Clients also pay for the cost of new mounts or frames, if required.
Please note that missing information can disqualify an application. For this reason, we encourage you to submit your requests as soon as possible for a preliminary review. This will allow time to add missing information, if required. If you need assistance preparing your application, please contact Elisabeth Joy.
