Text on screen: Flash rusting on iron blade. Time elapsed: approximately 4 hours.
The bare iron blade of a putty knife has droplets of water on the surface. Time-lapse photography shows the iron blade rusting under the droplets of water. First, the droplets take on an orange tinge. Then, orange corrosion forms in each droplet. When the drops have dried, a powdery orange residue is left on the blade.
