Commissioner’s update to volunteers: June 30, 2022

This content is a message to Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) volunteers from the Commissioner of CSC.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC). 

I wanted to take the opportunity to reconnect with you all. I understand that the impacts of COVID-19 have made it very challenging for volunteers to stay engaged consistently and regularly with our sites throughout the country. As public health measures continue to ease in many communities, we expect that activities in our institutions will continue to gradually resume in the near future. We are grateful for your ongoing service and patience.

Volunteers play an important role in helping CSC meet its mandate. The support and motivation you provide to those in our care and custody is immeasurable. Gestures, whether big or small, go a long way in contributing to rehabilitation and reintegration.

Spending time, having conversations on shared interests, or simply being available to listen makes a difference. We have many volunteers that also bring perspectives and experiences that support the diverse cultures and histories of many individuals.
