COVID-19 update for offenders and their families: September 23, 2022

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30 encourages each of us to:

more fully the impact of the residential school system on:

families and communities. It is important to continue the conversations from Every Child Matters as a way to honour Survivors of the residential school system and their families. We need to continue building meaningful relationships with Indigenous Peoples and work together towards reconciliation.

A reminder that help is available for residential school Survivors and their family members in need of emotional support or referrals to community resources. You may call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at 1-866-925-4419.

As we head into the fall, I encourage you to get a flu vaccine to reduce the risk of becoming ill. Thank you for your ongoing cooperation in wearing a mask when close to others and for washing/sanitizing your hands frequently. These practices help prevent the spread of infections, such as the flu and COVID-19. Your efforts at keeping yourself healthy and those around you are much appreciated.

Please speak with someone in health services if you are not feeling well, or if you have any questions about the flu and/or COVID-19 vaccines.

Thank you for your cooperation.

There is nothing noble in being superior to others; true nobility is being superior to your former self.
