COVID-19 update for offenders and their families: November 10, 2022

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day. I encourage you to take time to think about and pay tribute to all those who served, and continue to serve our country during times of:

Here at CSC, we have both employees and offenders who have served. We are grateful for their service. Remember all of our Veterans when you pause for two minutes of silence tomorrow.

The red poppy is a symbol of incredible sacrifice and a visible appreciation of all of our Canadian Veterans. Many institutions across the country have a tradition of supporting the Legion’s annual Poppy Campaign. At William Head Institution (WHI), in British Columbia, the Inmate Wellness Committee members get a box of poppies from the local Legion to raise donations within the institution. WHI donates over $300 to the Legion every year. A big thank you to WHI, and all the participating institutions for your generosity in supporting Veterans in your communities.

We continue to have multiple viruses circulating in our communities, which include COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses. You can do your part to help limit the spread by following the infection prevention measures we have in place:

If you feel unwell, please let Health Services know.

November 16 is the International Day for Tolerance, a day that celebrates:

Canadian communities, including our institutions, are made up of people of diverse cultures. Tolerance is accepting and respecting each person’s unique perspective and individuality.

Thank you for making an effort to value and respect each person.

If you live long enough, you’ll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you’ll be a better person. —William J. Clinton
