COVID-19 update for offenders and their families: December 16, 2022
It is flu season and the influenza virus can make you very ill. The best way to protect yourself is by getting the flu shot. A new flu vaccine is developed every year because the virus changes and the previous year’s vaccine becomes less effective. I encourage you to speak to Health Services about the flu and COVID-19 vaccines.
Have you heard of the Canadian Families and Corrections Network? For 30 years, they have been helping individuals in custody to connect with family and friends. They offer services such as:
- the Dad HERO program
- resiliency sessions, and
- letter-writing kits
For more information, please ask a staff member.
Kudos to incarcerated individuals at Nova Institution for Women who make:
- dreamcatchers
- lanyards
- earrings, and
- more.
The Hobby Craft Program provides offenders with an outlet for creativity and cultural connections as they work towards rehabilitation. The women have sold many of their creations to:
- staff
- contractors, and
- volunteers
Happy Hannukah to those of you celebrating! This year’s Jewish Festival of Lights is being celebrated from December 18 to December 26.
At this time, we will continue to waive the fees for:
- food
- accommodation, and
- telephone
until March 31, 2023. These deductions will not come off your pay during this time. I hope this is helpful to you in the upcoming holiday season.
