Death of an inmate from the Regional Treatment Centre

November 12, 2019 – Bath, Ontario – Correctional Service Canada

On November 9, 2019, John Andrews, an inmate from the Regional Treatment Centre at Millhaven Institution, died while in our custody of apparent natural causes.

At the time of his death, Mr. Andrews 72 years-old, had been serving a sentence of 58 years, 4 months and 14 days for Armed Robbery, Escape Lawful Custody, Break and Enter, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, and Possession of an Unregistered Restricted Weapon since September 1, 1970.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
