Minister Champagne in Toronto May 6 and 7 to highlight the Spring Economic Update 2026

Toronto, Ontario – On May 6 and May 7, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue, will be in Toronto to take part in various speaking engagements where he will highlight the government’s plan to build a stronger, more independent, more resilient economy for all Canadians.

11:30 a.m.  

While in Toronto, the Minister will join David Herle, host of the Curse of Politics and The Herle Burly podcasts, for a fireside chat hosted by the Empire Club of Canada, where he will reflect on the government’s fiscal and economic priorities, and what lies ahead for Canadians as the country navigates a complex international and domestic landscape. The Minister will then join Susan E. Hawkins, President and CEO of Payments Canada, to discuss key pillars of the 2026 Spring Economic Update. The discussion will focus on the government’s efforts to combat financial crime and fraud, as well as the importance of payment modernization initiatives. A media availability will follow.
