Minister Champagne in Charlottetown, PEI, to host pre-budget consultations and Finance Ministers’ Meeting

Charlottetown, PEI – On July 14th and 15th, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue, will be in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. 

While there, the Minister will meet with his provincial and territorial counterparts as part of the Finance Ministers’ Meeting to discuss, among other things, shared priorities, with emphasis on advancing a Growth and Competitiveness Agenda and building a stronger, more competitive Canadian economy amid global uncertainty. 

The Minister will also meet with Charlottetown Mayor Philip Brown and local stakeholders to discuss their Budget 2026 priorities and exchange views on key economic issues.

Meeting with Mayor Brown:

The Minister and Mayor’s meeting will revolve around the collaborative approach both offices are taking to address affordability challenges and ensure regional interests are represented in government policy. Minister Champagne and Mayor Brown will speak to media following their meeting.

Biotechnology Sector Roundtable:

Minister Champagne will hold a pre-budget consultation roundtable with Canada’s biotechnology sector leaders in Prince Edward Island (private).

Finance Ministers’ Meeting:

Minister Champagne will host a meeting with provincial and territorial Finance Ministers. The Finance Ministers will discuss key common objectives, including affordability, housing and Canada’s long-term economic growth. 

At the start of the meeting with provincial and territorial Finance Ministers, media are welcome to attend the opening remarks by Minister Champagne and the Honourable Jill Burridge, Prince Edward Island Minister of Finance and Affordability, which will include a B-roll opportunity. There will also be a family photo open to the media mid-morning. A joint closing press conference and media availability will be held following the meeting. Media are invited to attend the press conference in person or virtually.
