1. A writ has been issued on 24 May 26 calling for a by-election in Nova Scotia in the electoral district of Cheticamp-Margarees-Pleasant Bay with election day on 23 June 26
2. Members of the Canadian armed forces (CAF) and their dependants vote pursuant to ordinary civilian voting rules. In accordance with the election act of Nova Scotia, qualifications required of a civilian voter are that the person must:
   1. Be 18 years of age on or before election day,
   2. Be a Canadian citizen and
   3. Have been ordinarily resident in the province for six months immediately preceding the day of the writ, i.e., since 23 Nov 25
   4. Be a resident of the Cheticamp-Margarees-Pleasant Bay electoral district
3. For the purpose of determining a person’s place of residence, section 40 of the Nova Scotia elections act states that a person resides in the place where the person lives and to which, whenever absent, the person intends to return. A member residing onboard ship would be ordinarily resident in the electoral district in which the ship is berthed, e.g., HMC dockyard, Halifax - Needham electoral district, provided the member has no other ordinary residence in Nova Scotia
4. Voters registration notices, which confirm that a person s name is on the Nova Scotia list of electors, will be distributed by elections Nova Scotia. If a person has not received their voter notification by 8 June 26 the person should call the election call centre at 1-800-565-1504 or for Halifax metro area at 902-424-8584. If the person s name is not on the list of electors, an application must be made to the returning office of the person s electoral district. Identification, which shows the person s identity and residence, is required. An elector s name can be added to the list from 27 May 26 to 20 June 26 and also on election day, 23 June 26
5. A member may vote in person at returning office continuous polls from 0900 to 1800 hrs from 27 May 26 (closed Sundays) to 22 June 26, 0900 to 2000 hrs on 18-19 June 26, and 0800 to 2000 hrs on election day, 23 June 26
6. On election day, 23 June 26, electors may vote at their assigned voting location and poll from 0800 to 2000 hrs
7. Members who expect to be unable to vote on the days set for special, advance or ordinary polling may vote by write-in ballot. The member can complete an application for write-in ballot using the write-in ballot application portal or download an application from the elections Nova Scotia website or can receive an application from the returning office of the member s electoral district. The completed application must include a photocopy of a document or documents identifying the member and their residence. Proof can be a copy of one document with the member s name, address and signature or copies of two pieces of identification, one with the member s name and the other with the member s name and signature. When the member submits the completed application form and a copy of identification documents and they are approved a write-in ballot kit will be sent to the member along with instructions. It is the responsibility of each member to ensure that their write-in ballot reaches the returning officer of the member s electoral district by 2000 hrs adt on 23 June 26
8. It is the personal responsibility of members of the CAF and their dependents to ensure that their names are included in the proper polling division lists. Other details respecting qualifications, revision dates, advance polls, location of civilian polls, etc. Should be obtained locally from the applicable civilian returning officer

10. Section 41 of chapter five of the amended Nova Scotia elections act - member of the Canadian forces and absence from province, states that:
    
    (1) a member of Canadian armed forces means:
    1. A member of the regular force or a special force of the CAF
    2. A member of the reserve force of the CAF who is on full-time training or service or on active service or
    3. A person who is employed outside Canada by the CAF as a teacher in, or as a member of the administrative support staff for, a Canadian armed forces school
       

(2) notwithstanding subsection 38(1), a person who has left the province and intends to return and reside in the province is eligible to vote in an election if the person is a Canadian citizen who:

1. Provincial legislation does not prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages on polling day in Nova Scotia. Accordingly, the sale of alcoholic beverages in messes, canteens and other institutes is not prohibited on civilian polling day
2. Political activities on defence establishments and personal political activities of members of the CAF are governed by qr and o 19.44 and section 3 of ref a. Political advertising in unofficial service newspapers is prohibited.
3. All base commanders are to ensure the widest distribution of this message including its republication in routine orders.
4.  
   1. Will be eighteen years of age or older on election day
   2. Is absent from the province on election day
      
      (i) while serving as a member of Canadian armed forces
      (ii) while engaged in the service of the government of Canada or the government of the province
      (iii) while attending an educational institution
      (iv) while engaged as an employee of an international organization of which Canada is a member, or
      (v) because the person has left the province and intends to return and is living with a person referred to in any of subclauses (i) to (iv), and
   3. Immediately before leaving the province in any of the circumstances described in clause (b)
      
      (i) had resided in the province for at least six months, and
      (ii) resided in the electoral district in which the election is being held
