Defence Team Update – Mental health support during challenging times

April 20, 2020 – Defence Stories

To Defence Team members,

This weekend, our nation was shaken by a terrible act of violence.

Canadians, including Defence Team members, are collectively mourning the unfortunate events that unfolded in Nova Scotia while continuing to navigate this unprecedented time of uncertainty and stress around COVID-19.

As members of the Defence Team, who are located in communities all across Canada, we recognize that you or someone you know may have been impacted and we acknowledge and understand that some of you may be experiencing difficulties coping. Our deepest condolences go out to all those affected by this horrible tragedy.

In times like this, it is important that we reinforce our solidarity, remain focused, and take care of one another and our communities. In order to do this, remember that you are not alone. Be sure to consult the many resources available to you as a CAF member or DND employee. Talk to your manager,  connect with friends and family, seek out the employee and member assistance programs, or contact your family doctor. You will also find a wealth of information on the DND/CAF COVID-19 - Mental Health page and the HR Go App related to taking care of your mental health, including information on services and support available to military and civilian Defence Team members.

To each and every one of you saddened by this shocking event, please know that the Defence Team is prepared to provide you with the support you require. Thank you for remaining united, hopeful and reaching out during these challenging times.

We commend the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for their service and express our sympathies for the loss of Cst. Heidi Stevenson. Thank you to the first responders whose courage and sacrifice sets the tone for our nation; the Defence Team stands with you.
