Government of Canada and Royal Canadian Navy mark a major milestone

November 24, 2016 – Halifax, N.S. – Department of National Defence / Royal Canadian Navy

Member of Parliament for Halifax, N.S. Andy Fillmore, on behalf of Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan, along with Vice-Admiral Ron Lloyd, Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy, will attend a ceremony to celebrate the succcesful transfer of the twelfth and final frigate to finish the refit portion of its modernization as part of the Halifax-class Modernization/ Frigate Life Extension (HCM/FELEX) project.

The HCM/FELEX project provided state-of-the-art upgrades, allowing Canada’s fleet of 12 Halifax-class frigates to meet 21st century threats.

  • The Halifax Shipyard is a highly secure site. Upon arrival, all visitors must report to security personnel at the main gatehouse.
  • All visitors are required to provide security personnel with government-issued picture identification in order to obtain a visitor pass to the Halifax Shipyard. Identification will be returned when the visitor pass is given back to security at the end of the visit.
  • Media should arrive no later than 9:45 a.m on November 29.
