About the All Domain Situational Awareness (ADSA) Science and Technology Program

The All Domain Situational Awareness (ADSA) Science and Technology (S&T) Program is a new program led by DND, which aims to apply S&T to identify, assess and validate technologies in support air and maritime surveillance, particularly in the North.

ADSA supports Canada’s long-term commitment to asserting its sovereignty in the Arctic and supports the Canadian Armed Forces’ ability to exercise sovereignty in the North while providing a greater whole-of-government awareness of safety and security issues in the North.

DND and the Government of Canada has committed $133 million over five years to the ADSA S&T program, with the aim of providing DND with broad evidence-based S&T advice to inform high-level decisions on future investments in surveillance solutions.

ADSA funding will support projects and activities that apply research and analysis to deliver technology options that will enhance the surveillance of Canada’s air and maritime approaches, particularly in the North. Option development will be done within DND, and through partnerships with industry, academia, allies and other stakeholders.

About the Canadian Safety and Security Program

The Canadian Safety and Security Program (CSSP) is led by DRDC’s Centre for Security Science (DRDC CSS), in partnership with Public Safety Canada. DRDC CSS administers the operations of the CSSP and fosters innovative S&T advancements intended to contribute to evidence-based, interconnected and resilient public safety and security systems. Public Safety Canada provides security and public safety policy guidance to DRDC CSS.

Launched in 2012, the CSSP is one of many efforts undertaken by the Government of Canada to increase the country’s defence, security and public safety capabilities. The program aims to develop S&T solutions to anticipate and prevent incidents that threaten Canada’s safety and security, to mitigate, prepare for, and respond to these incidents when they happen and, ultimately, to recover from their aftermath.

The CSSP creates opportunities for partnerships among a variety of S&T experts and public safety and security stakeholders to support the development of knowledge, tools, processes and strategies essential for safeguarding Canada. This collaborative model ensures that key organizations from government, industry, academia and international organizations are brought together to work on the most pressing safety and security issues facing Canada.
