Mandate
The External Advisory Council (EAC) on Sexual Misconduct provides advice to the SMSRC and DND/CAF on policies, programs, services and initiatives related to sexual misconduct. The EAC members are independent subject matter experts and leaders within Canada’s private, public and non-profit sectors who have expertise, knowledge and/or lived experience of sexual misconduct.
Members are volunteers who provide advice by reviewing and providing recommendations to the SMSRC and DND/CAF to help inform initiatives related to sexual misconduct and improve programs, policies, and practices.
The EAC meets four to six times annually for two to three hours, with at least one in-person meeting held annually, usually over a two-day period.
The SMSRC selects EAC members according to their experience, knowledge, and ability to advise on a variety of aspects of sexual misconduct such as:
- victim and survivor support services
- gender-based violence
- military culture and CAF service realities
- trauma-informed approaches
- culturally humility frameworks
- 2SLGBTQI+ inclusion
- advocacy, prevention, and policy
- lived experience in the DND/CAF
- military and civilian justice systems
