The Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre’s Restorative Engagement Program Updates Spring 2024

Greetings,

Since our last contact with you, there have been significant changes in the Restorative Engagement (RE) Program that we are excited to share with you. Our commitment to this program has always been to remain responsive to your needs. Following important feedback, we have taken the necessary time to reflect on our processes and make changes. We want to ensure we can support class members through engagements in a timelier manner. We also want individuals from all levels of leadership to be able to meaningfully participate as Defence representatives in the program.

These improvements contribute to lasting culture changes within the organization while enhancing the responsiveness and effectiveness of the RE program.

In this Edition

Accelerated intake

Between December 2023 and February 2024, we reached out to all class members who had not yet been contacted, inviting them to confirm their interest in participating in RE. To date, more than 1,400 have indicated that they wish to participate in the program.

We will be reaching out again late in the summer to those who have not yet responded to make sure everyone has a chance to participate if they wish.

Class members waiting to participate

With the first phase of accelerated intake complete, we now have many class members waiting to be assigned to a restorative practitioner. If you wish to remain engaged while you wait to be assigned to a practitioner, there are a few options available to you:

New ways defence representatives can participate

In the fall of 2023, the RE program evolved to offer more ways Defence Team members of all ranks and levels can participate. This means greater access to Defence representatives at various levels, more availability for Defence representatives to meet your engagements timeframes, and opportunities to engage in groups engagements.

Information sessions

To ensure you have all the information you need and to answer any questions you may have, we will be offering new information sessions starting at the end of May 2024. These sessions are an opportunity to learn more about the program enhancements and how you can be involved in shaping our path forward.

Stay tuned as we add new dates for information sessions on our website.
