Cadet Summer Training 2023
Information regarding Summer Training 2023, and additional resources.
Planning Update
Planning for 2023 cadet summer training is ongoing at this time and details are still being finalized as we continue to carefully analyze feedback and lessons learned from the past summer to determine and develop this year’s program.
We anticipate that adult and cadet staffing will continue to be a challenge, and based on feedback provided by our members, our plans for summer 2023 training incorporate flexible and agile contingencies. The number of staff applications received is being used to determine the capacity of summer programming we can safely deliver while still enabling a healthy work/life balance for those responsible for supporting and delivering our activities.
We remain committed to offering an in-person summer experience to as many cadets as possible, but must also balance this with our responsibility to ensure the physical and mental well-being of our members.
For many cadets, participating in summer training is the highlight of their year. The many diverse training opportunities offered during the summer months, including the Cadet Activity Programs, Cadet Training Centre (CTC) Courses, the Cadet Digital Campus, the National Cadet Advisory Council (NCAC), Information Technology (IT) on-the-job-training (OJT) and International Training Activities, are the perfect occasion to make friends for life during experiences youth will never forget.
Summer Training Opportunities
Summer Opportunity | Description |
---|---|
Cadet Activity Programs (CAP) |
CAP will be delivered locally for cadets in levels one and two. The programming will be managed by the Regional Commanding Officers, offering expanded opportunities for Cadets across Canada. |
Cadet Training Centre (CTC) Training | Courses offered to cadets who have completed their third year of training, or higher, hosted at Cadet Training Centres (CTC). Courses range in length from 2-7 weeks and take place at CTC locations across the country. Some CTC locations may include satellite sites to meet training requirements. |
National Cadet Advisory Council (NCAC) | In 2023, the NCAC will be hosted by the Commander, Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers, at two CTCs, over a six week training period. This group will provide the opportunity for the Commander and senior staff at the headquarters to engage directly with a group of senior cadets from across the country on a variety of cadet program related topics. |
Information Technology (IT) On-the-Job-Training (OJT) | IT OJT is a Staff Cadet opportunity for cadets to develop their digital skills through education and work experience. These staff cadets gain new skills in cybersecurity, web development, building applications, and so much more. This hands-on training experience gives them skills which enable them to be digital leaders within the Cadet Program and beyond. |
The Summer Digital Learning Centre (SDLC) | Summer 2023 is seeing the implementation of the SDLC to house and deliver e-learning courses and the e-learning components of hybrid CTC courses to cadets from across the country. |
International Activities | For the first year since the beginning of the pandemic, cadets will have the opportunity during summer 2023 to participate in international training exchanges. These exchanges provide the opportunity for selected cadets to experience another culture and participate in a foreign cadet training program. |
Staff Cadet Opportunities | Cadets sixteen and older may also apply for positions as staff cadets at either CAPs, CTCs and the SDLC in a variety of positions. |
