The application process will help you get started on a career in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) whether you want to find a full-time job or are interested in joining on a part-time basis.
At any time throughout the process, you can find and speak to an advisor in your area who can answer your questions about the application process and working in the CAF.
Applying for a full-time positions in the Regular Force
To join the Regular Force, you must:
- be 18 years old (17 years old with parental consent)
- be a Canadian citizen
- have completed at least Grade 10 (Secondaire IV in Quebec)
You must also be of an age where there is enough time to complete any necessary training and your first term of service before the compulsory retirement age of 60.
To join through the paid education program, you must be at least 16 years old.
Applying for a part-time position in the Reserve Force
To join the Reserve Force, you must be at least 16 years old and in school full-time. You can join as a Reservist and keep your full-time career outside the CAF.
If you are applying through the Paid Education Program, you must be able to complete two months of service for each month of education before reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60.
What you need to know before you start
The first step in the online application process is to create a GC Key account with the Government of Canada and complete the online profile, which will take about 30 minutes.
Once you submit, someone will contact you and walk you through the rest of the application process. Completing the application form is not a commitment to join the CAF. If you do not submit your application within 90 days from your last date you made changes, it will be deleted by the system.
For a part- time job in with the Reserves, your first step should be to contact your local Reserve unit to find out which positions are available. Once the Reserve unit you want to join has a job for you, you will need to complete an online application.
