Centre-du-Québec families to enjoy improved community spaces for a better quality of life

Backgrounder

August 25, 2017 – Fortierville, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Families in the Centre-du-Québec region will enjoy safer play areas for their children and improved facilities for socializing and physical activity thanks to an investment of more than $929,000 by the Government of Canada. The funding will generate over $1,876,000 in related investments from other partners, such as non-profit organizations and municipalities.

The contributions were announced by the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, federal Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED.

The funding was awarded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150).

Association pour la mise en valeur de la rivière Gentilly Inc.

Non-repayable contribution of $500,000 out of a total investment of $1,000,000

The project consists in improving the Parc régional de la rivière Gentilly. It involves renovating the welcome centre, upgrading the children’s playgrounds, adding a splash park and improving the sanitary facilities. CED’s contribution will go toward all the project costs.

Founded in 1992, the Association pour la mise en valeur de la rivière Gentilly is mandated to promote sports and recreational activities in the Parc régional de la rivière Gentilly.  

Municipality of Fortierville

Non-repayable contribution of $100,021 out of a total investment of $200,042

The project consists in renovating Fortierville’s municipal hall. CED’s contribution will go toward all the project costs.

Built in 1941, the municipal hall is being used exclusively as a community centre for the 706 residents and belongs to the municipality.

Municipality of Lyster (in French only)

 

 

 

Non-repayable contribution of $89,292 out of a total investment of $178,584

The project consists in renovating the gym in the Municipality of Lyster’s recreation centre. CED’s contribution will go toward all the project costs.

Built in the 1970s, the building belongs to the municipality and has always been used as a community centre. The recreation centre has a multi-purpose hall on the ground floor, a gym on the second floor that is also used as a second multi-purpose hall, as well as an adjacent skating rink.

Centre communautaire Saint-Charles

Non-repayable contribution of $70,000 out of a total investment of $140,000

The project consists in expanding Rosaire-Smith park in Drummondville by adding three things: a surface for outdoor physical activities, a surface for outdoor play areas and an extension to the pathway between the splash park and the community centre. CED’s contribution will go toward all the project costs.

The Centre communautaire Saint-Charles (CCSC) was founded in March 2005, and its mission is to provide an environment in which people of all ages can develop individually and collectively through educational, recreational and community activities.

Corporation de gestion des rivières des Bois-Francs

Non-repayable contribution of $57,000 out of a total investment of $114,000

The project consists in enhancing the Nicolet River fishing route. CED’s contribution will go toward all project costs related to improving the infrastructure.

Founded in 1988, the Corporation de gestion des rivières des Bois-Francs is a non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the Nicolet River and promote sport fishing to adult anglers and the next generation of sport fishers.

Town of Princeville

Non-repayable contribution of $43,835 out of a total investment of $90,000

The project consists in improving the arena, namely the Centre sportif Paul-de-la-Sablonnière. CED’s contribution will go toward all the project costs.

The town owns the Centre sportif Paul-de-la-Sablonnière, which was built in 1975. It offers many activities nine months of the year, including public skating, hockey and figure skating, while the remaining three months are used for exhibitions, festivals and other sports and cultural activities. This municipal infrastructure is used primarily for community purposes.

Les Loisirs Sainte-Clotilde-de-Horton

 

 

Non-repayable contribution of $31,000 out of a total investment of $62,000

The project consists in improving the intergenerational recreational park in the Municipality of Sainte-Clotilde-de-Horton by adding a water park. CED’s contribution will go toward all the project costs.

Incorporated in 2008, Les Loisirs Sainte-Clotilde-de-Horton is a non-profit organization whose mission is to develop recreational activities that are accessible to all residents of the Municipality of Sainte-Clotilde-de-Horton.

Les Loisirs de Ste-Julie de Laurierville

 

 

Non-repayable contribution of $23,000 out of a total investment of $46,000

The project consists in restoring and improving Laurierville’s tennis courts. CED’s contribution will go toward all the project costs.

Founded in 1963, Les Loisirs de Ste-Julie de Laurierville is a non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the quality of life and social participation of residents by providing them with places and opportunities to get together, notably through recreational activities.

Le Club de l'Âge d'Or de Drummondville Inc.

 

 

Non-repayable contribution of $15,000 out of a total investment of $45,000

The project consists in renovating the building housing the Club de l'Âge d'Or de Drummondville Inc. by transforming two unused rooms into a new community hall and upgrading the interior infrastructure. CED’s contribution will go toward costs relating to the new community hall, stairways and the hallway and part of the exterior cladding and roof.

Founded in 1968, the Club de l'Âge d'Or de Drummondville Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the well-being of senior citizens and to provide recreational activities for its members and help them overcome isolation.
