Expert Panel on Modern Federal Labour Standards

Introduction

As part of next steps on modernizing federal labour standards, the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour has created an independent Expert Panel to examine the following five issues related to the changing nature of work:

  1. Federal minimum wage
  2. Labour standards protections for non-standard workers
  3. Disconnecting from work-related e-communications outside of work hours (sometimes known as the “right to disconnect”)
  4. Access and portability of benefits
  5. Collective voice for non-unionized workers

Details and information

The Expert Panel has been asked to study these issues, consult with stakeholders, experts, Canadians and others, and submit a report to the Minister with advice and recommendations by June 30, 2019.
