iSucceed Initiative – WT Region
At Employment and Social Development Canada, we are all about equipping employees with the tools and resources they need to succeed, starting from Day 1. It is with that notion in mind that the W-T Region Employment Insurance (EI) Operation Committee developed the iSucceed Initiative; a series of user-friendly guides and resources outlining common behaviors that lead to success.
Each volume in the series targets specific topics related to job training, service excellence delivery, performance maximization and career development.
- Volume 1: Week Zero—Setting the Stage contains tools for new employees starting out their careers. New W-T Region EI Processing agents are being provided with a common road map for navigating their first week that is supported by mentoring and coaching by more seasoned staff.
- Volume 2: The Path to Higher Performance was created to support both new EI Processing and seasoned agents in effectively managing their work. It is a compilation of best practices that were provided by high-performing employees in various levels of the EI processing team.
By supporting new EI Processing Officers in the W-T Region to learn the skills and behaviors required to function effectively within the organization, agents are able to perform better (and sooner) in their new role, and achieve successful results. W-T’s iSucceed initiative truly embodies our departmental culture of higher performance; a culture which encourages performance by fostering collaborative relationships and putting in place the necessary mechanisms for ensuring that employees quickly reach and maintain their full potential.
The approach keeps receiving positive feedback from W-T Region employees, particularly as it relates to the usefulness of the work flow chart which clearly outlines all the steps required in the completion of work.
As mentioned by the Clerk of the Privy Council in the Twenty-Third Annual Report to the Prime Minister on the Public Service of Canada – Report: “While recruitment is critical, so is successful onboarding as it helps new employees make meaningful contributions early.” And that’s exactly what the W-T Region is achieving with its iSucceed initiative. They are allowing employees to grow in their position and keep them engaged in their important role of responding to clients current and emerging needs. A win-win approach for everyone: employees, the organization, and ultimately Canadians.
