Administrator Training: Welcome

The purpose of Administrator Training is to provide Executive Directors and HIFIS Administrators with the knowledge and skills needed to implement, use and customize the HIFIS 3.8 software to meet the reporting requirements of your funding organizations and facilitate the management of your operations.

This training will also provide you with guidance on how to use the HIFIS 3 Training Centre to meet the training needs of your organization.

Who This Training is for

This course has been developed for Executive Directors and new HIFIS Administrators who:

  • need to set up HIFIS for the first time in a shelter and are transitioning to HIFIS from other shelter management systems
  • are new to a shelter or other service provider using HIFIS

It is also intended for experienced Executive Directors and HIFIS Administrators who:

  • need to quickly reference the training demonstrations to modify their standard settings
  • would like to run their shelter more efficiently by using HIFIS to its full potential

Before You Begin

It is suggested that you become familiar with the HIFIS software before beginning this training.

You can do this by completing the following courses:

If you are unable to complete the above-mentioned courses, please familiarize yourself with the basic layout of the HIFIS database by reviewing the following topic: Getting Around.

You have the option to install a demo version of the HIFIS software on a standalone computer at your organization. This would enable you and your staff to experiment with HIFIS in a safe environment, at any time, using simulated data.

How to Use this Course

The following modules are available in the Administrator Training Course:

  3. Customizing HIFIS
  4. Data Integrity and Exports

The Getting Started module is intended to support Executive Directors and HIFIS Administrators to make key decisions about how they will implement and use HIFIS. Subsequent modules address the technical skills needed to administer HIFIS in a shelter or other service provider.

We encourage HIFIS Administrators to complete the course in sequence, as the topics are structured to build on one another. Topics in later modules will make more sense once earlier modules have been completed.

A variety of software demonstrations are included to help you understand the content.

If you need help navigating through the training, or would like more information about the demonstrations and simulations, refer to the Help menu located in the box to the right of this window.

Choose Glossary (left menu) at any time to find definitions specific to the training.

In addition, Administration manuals are available through the HIFIS 3.8 software. You can find these documents by selecting Help from the HIFIS Home Screen, then Get HIFIS Documents. The manuals provide more detail on the topics discussed in this course.
