Getting Started – Welcome

You have researched the benefits of HIFIS and decided to implement HIFIS in your service provider, or maybe your organization has been using HIFIS for a long time and you have decided to implement a new feature of the software. What do you do next?

As with any big change, successful implementation of the HIFIS software and its features relies on careful planning and preparation. You may need to change internal processes (how or at what point you collect information). You may also need to change who is involved in record keeping. You may even change what information you collect.

This module addresses some of the common issues that organizations encounter and will support Executive Directors and HIFIS administrators as you discuss, plan and prepare for HIFIS implementation. Every service provider is unique, however, and what works for one organization may not work for another. Gathering information about what you do, who works at your shelter, what information you need to collect and how your shelter collects information will help you decide on the strategy that will work in your organization.
