Basics: Before You Begin

If you are front-line worker or volunteer at a shelter or service provider using HIFIS this course is for you.

The purpose of this HIFIS Basics course is to provide you with the skills required to correctly perform daily tasks within the software. It also introduces you to the importance of ensuring accurate data is entered into the system.

This course contains five modules:

  1. Orientation
  2. Clients and Families
  3. Client Stays for Shelters
  4. Barring, Turnaways and Reservations
  5. Essential Tasks

How to Use this Course

You are encouraged to complete the modules in order. The topics are structured to build on one another and topics in later modules will make more sense after you have completed earlier modules.

A variety of knowledge check exercises with questions, software demonstrations, and hands-on simulations are included to help you put the content into practice. Your answers to the exercises and attempts to complete the demonstrations will not be stored or logged anywhere. However, we encourage you to print the results of the Basics and Beyond the Basics Knowledge Checks, as they are the proof that you have successfully completed the training.

If you need help navigating through the training, or would like more information about the demonstrations and simulations, refer to the Help menu located in the box to the right of this window.

Choose Glossary (left menu) at any time to find definitions specific to the training.
