Web Accessibility: Using the Demonstrations and Simulations

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) is constantly improving its Web sites and services to make them accessible to people with disabilities or those who are using adaptive technologies.

Visitors using adaptive technologies to use the demonstrations and simulations should be aware of the following information:

There are demonstrations and two types of simulations provided throughout the training to help you learn the skills you need.

Show Me Demonstrations

Learn How
Show me a demonstration about how to do this task.

Doing this Task

Following the hyperlink will take you to a Web page containing a video demonstration which:

  • shows you how to complete a task step-by-step using the software
  • contains audio and may require the use of headphones
  • allows you to tab into the player controls using the keyboard to pause, play, and rewind the demonstration video.
  • contains a closed caption button which allows you to read the descriptions of the steps rather than listen to them

Below each demonstration video you will find the following:

  • A printable scenario which provides context for the demonstration (if applicable)
  • A link to this section: Web Accessibility: Using the Demonstrations and Simulations
  • A transcript of the video

Let Me Try Simulations

Let me try to complete this task on my own.

The simulation uses screenshots from the live HIFIS application and creates a realistic environment where you can practise the skills you have learned.

As you move through the simulation, you will be provided with data to enter and feedback on your progress.

If you are unsure how to proceed, press the hint button for help with next steps.

Doing this Task Simulation

Following the hyperlink will take you to a Web page containing a video simulation which:

  • lets you try to complete the task on your own, using a simulation of the software
  • provides a Hint button accessible by the keyboard which you can press for assistance with the next step in the simulation
  • contains audio and may require the use of headphones
  • allows you to tab into the player controls using the keyboard to pause, play, and rewind the demonstration video
  • contains a closed caption button which allows you to read the descriptions of the steps rather than listen to them

Below each simulation video you will find the following:

  • A printable scenario which provides context for the simulation (if applicable)
  • A link to this section: Web Accessibility: Using the Demonstrations and Simulations
  • A transcript of the video

How to use the keyboard to complete the simulation:

  • use the Tab key to go through the player template and into the fields in the simulation
  • the Tab key will activate the hint button
  • activate each text box by pressing the space bar or Enter before inputting text
  • after inputting information into text boxes you must press Enter to move to the next step

Practice Your Skills Simulations

These simulations appear in the Knowledge Check at the end of certain modules and courses with the following text:

Practice your skills in a simulation of the live HIFIS application.

As you move through the simulation, you will be provided with data to enter and minimal hints if you are unsure how to proceed.

In this simulation you will complete one task and then another.

Complete one Task and then Another.
