Start of payments

If you’ve submitted all required documents and your application is approved, payments will begin immediately.

If you provided your banking information when you applied, you’ll receive your payments through direct deposit. If not, you’ll receive a cheque by mail.

Income tax will be deducted from the payments. At the end of the year, you’ll receive a statement of income (T4A) slip for income tax purposes. Quebec residents will also receive an RL-1 slip.

If you start receiving EI or Quebec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP) benefits after your send your application, contact us.

You cannot receive the Canadian Benefit for Parents of Young Victims of Crime for the same weeks you’re receiving EI or QPIP benefits.
