“I’m motivated by problems that need solving, and by feeling like my work is benefitting the planet.”

Since joining Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) in 2010, Jeff Gleeson feels fortunate to have worked on a number of online regulatory data collection projects related to climate change. Currently, Jeff is the Senior Engineer and Team Lead at the Carbon Markets Bureau, tasked with designing an IT system to support the Output-Based Pricing System (OBPS), under the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act. Recently, Jeff’s team launched the Credit and Tracking System (CATS). CATS is a cloud-based platform that tracks the issuance and trade of carbon credits, and manages the compensation required when facility emissions exceed their limits. Getting CATS up and running has been an enormous undertaking, but Jeff is gratified to see it being used for the OBPS, and to know that the platform will be leveraged by future market-based programs.

When asked about what he favours most about his career and working at ECCC, Jeff responded, “collaborating with fantastic people, who are passionate about what they do”.
