Justin Quan: Junior Engineering Analyst

Meet Justin Quan! Since 2019, Justin has been working in the nation’s capital as a Junior Engineering Analyst with ECCC’s Energy and Transportation Directorate. Justin previously worked as a student within various teams at ECCC from 2016 to 2018. Justin likens working at ECCC to being a member of a big team that brings together everyone’s diverse experiences, skills, and perspectives to contribute to common goals for the environment. 

Since first starting at ECCC, Justin observed a progressive culture shift in open and constructive discussions on complex issues, such as mental health and mental illness, racism, and accessibility. As a fairly new and junior employee, Justin pitched in and eventually led a branch-wide wellness activity that resulted in positive feedback from management and participants across Canada. It further reinforced his belief that the mental health, well-being, and ideas of employees are valued at ECCC. Justin feels fortunate to be working with his wonderful colleagues who are insightful, diligent, and affable.

• What was your first job?  Driveway sealing.
• If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be? Vatican City.
• What is your favourite game or sport to watch and play? If I had only one day left on Earth, I would spend it playing hockey. If I could only play one sport for the rest of my life, it would be soccer.
• If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Sushi.
• What are your hobbies? Reading, learning new things, watching and playing hockey and soccer, trying new foods, and walking.
• What is your favourite flavour of ice cream? Pistachio.
• If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have? Telekinesis and teleportation.
• What's your favourite zoo animal? Giant Panda.
• Summer or winter? Winter.
