Katie Henderson: Junior Project Engineer

Meet Katie Henderson! Two years ago, Katie joined the Clean Fuel Standard team at Environment and Climate Change Canada, where she worked as a student for 16 months. After completing her degree, Katie accepted a full-time job with the same team, as a Junior Project Engineer working from Hull, Quebec. The combination of liaising with stakeholders, considering policy ramifications, and crunching numbers makes for an exciting workday! In Katie’s short career, she helped to develop the proposed Clean Fuel Regulations, which aim to significantly reduce pollution by making the fuels we use every day cleaner over time. What is particularly motivating for Katie, is working with colleagues who also care deeply about the environment, and generously share their knowledge and experience with her.

Here are a few random facts about Katie:
- What is your favourite game or sport to watch and play? You will very rarely see me playing sports (I may be the least coordinated person you’ve ever seen), but I love watching soccer!
- If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Easy. Veggie pad Thai. YUM.
- What are your hobbies? I love to play flute and piano and sing. I also enjoy hiking, high intensity interval training (HIIT), baking, and reading.
- What is your favourite flavour of ice cream? Peanut Butter Cup, but I will eat ANY kind of ice cream. And a LOT of it.
- If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have? I mean I’d like to be able to fly, but realistically my superpower would be the ability to boil water to make lots of tea.
- What's your favourite zoo animal? As soon as I’m in the door, I’m always running to the otters. They’re so fun and playful!
- Summer or winter? Summer. I’m incapable of keeping myself warm.
- What's your favourite holiday? Christmas, by a LOT. I’ll put my tree up on November 12 and have candles, baked goods, and carols playing all season long.
- What's your favourite fast food chain? I love Chipotle – there’s nothing like eating a burrito bigger than your face.
- What's your favourite movie? Love Actually or Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I can’t choose!
- Where do you see yourself in 10 years? In 10 years, I hope to live on the lake with a playful dog, a canoe, a piano, and a nice big collection of books. I hope to be working towards a sustainable future and advocating for social justice.
